Sleeping with

Hyenas

Tour from the Serengeti (Safari) to Zanzibar.

I was in Tanzania for 11 days on a safari from the Serengeti Plain to the turquoise blue waters of Zanzibar. I was traveling with G-Adventures, and the tour started in Nairobi and ended in Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania.

Down below is the itinerary of the tour. The purpose of this blog is to give you a little story about Sleeping with Hyenas.

Sleeping with Hyenas:

It all starts with a bumpy safari van ride into the Serengeti. Once you reach the main gate of the Serengeti, you will begin to see all the fantastic creatures that live in this magical place. As we were starting the drive to the campsite, we saw a lioness on the move for her dinner. As we reached the campsite, the G-Adventure crew had already set the tents up and were ready for us to place our stuff. As most of the other tour group participants had someone staying with them, there was one other person who did not have a partner and me, so we got our very own tents. That first night was such a nightmare I thought I was going to have a heart attack! The tour guides said that during the night, the Hyenas would run threw the campsite. I was not expecting them to be right outside of the tents sniffing and doing their calls. Being alone in the tent, I will say I was not doing much sleeping that first night. After the second day of Safari, I told myself that I would be wearing my headphones to bed, so I don't hear the hyenas running around during the night. Although having the Hyenas outside the tent, it was such a fantastic adventure seeing all the beautiful and marvelous creatures run free in their natural habitats.
